Brown canvas fabric reference from GFBags backpack manufacturer

A strong, heavy fabric made from tightly woven cotton or flax fibers, known for its durability, water resistance (when treated), and rugged texture, making it ideal for tactical backpacks, tool bag, duffel, tents, and other heavy-duty items that require lasting strength and reliability (Can be mixed with RPET).

Organic cotton fabrics reference from GFBags backpack manufacturer

Made from pure cotton. Softer than canvas, breathable fabric with excellent moisture-wicking properties and vibrant dye retention, offering comfort and versatility for everyday, light-duty bags. Like shopper bag, tote bag, small accessories. Though it is generally less durable than canvas and more prone to wear and tear.

Most Used Specifications

12oz, 14oz, 16oz, 18oz, 24oz for Main fabrics; 6oz, 8oz for lining (“OZ” (ounces) refers to the weight of the fabric. It measures how much a square yard of the canvas weighs. The higher the OZ number, the thicker and more durable the canvas will be).

Canvas And Cotton

Dark green polyester reference from GFBags backpack manufacturer

A synthetic fabric made from petroleum-based products, typically in the form of a polymer called polyethylene terephthalate (PET). It is highly durable, resistant to shrinking, stretching, and wrinkles, and is often used in bags for its lightweight, strong, and water-resistant properties (after treating), as well as its ability to maintain its shape over time.

Blue Recycled PET fabrics of REPREVE reference from GFBags backpack manufacturer

Made from post-consumer plastic bottles, offering the same looking, strength, durability, and water resistance as traditional polyester, but with the added environmental benefit of repurposing waste materials, making it a sustainable choice for eco-conscious bags and accessories, which can be certicified by GRS (Global Recycled Stardand).

Most Used Specifications

600D,900D for main fabrics; 210D, 300D for lining (The term “D” denier rating of polyester fibers, which indicates the thickness or density of the individual strands used to make the fabric. The higher the number, the thicker and more durable the fabric is).

Polyester and RPET

Nylon

A synthetic fabric made from polyamide fibers, known for its strength, durability, and resistance to abrasion. Compared to polyester, which is lighter, dries faster, and resists shrinking and wrinkles, nylon is stronger and more elastic, making it tougher for high-stress areas like straps and seams. While nylon is heavier, its durability makes it the go-to choice for products that require long-lasting performance.

Additionally, GFBags offer recycled nylon made from post-consumer materials such as discarded nylon garments, fishing nets from ocean. Shared the same features of nylon.

Most Used Specifications

70D ripstop, 210D, 420D; 500D, 840D, 1050D, 1680D ballistic.

Vegan Leather

Vegan leather also called PU (Polyurethane), which is a common synthetic material known for its flexibility, water resistance, and soft texture, making it a popular choice for daily bags and women bags. It offers a leather-like finish at a way lower cost, while providing an eco-friendly alternative to genuine leather. However, vegan leather is not as durable as genuine leather, polyester, or nylon, with its surface often showing signs of wear and tear within two years.

In response to these durability concerns, GFBags has partnered with Ucon Acrobatic to develop EPU. Which offers enhanced resistance to wear and tear, greater durability, and a longer lifespan, making it an ideal solution for eco-conscious products without compromising on strength or aesthetics. For a visual demonstration of EPU(PUrTEX∞)’s durability, you might find this video

PU offers an eco-friendly solution for bag materials, with certain types achieving a recycling rate of up to 95%, making it an excellent choice for sustainable and responsible product development.

Tarpaulin

Tarpaulin is a heavy-duty, waterproof fabric commonly used for outdoor and industrial applications. Made from woven polyester or nylon, it is coated with PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) or sometimes TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane) to provide enhanced durability and water resistance. Known for its toughness, tarpaulin is resistant to abrasion, tearing, and UV damage, making it ideal for rugged environments.

However, most PVC tarpaulins are less eco-friendly compared to other woven fabrics, while TPU tarpaulins tend to be more expensive. It’s important to consider these factors before choosing them for your bags.
